In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: virtiofs: use pages instead of pointer for kernel direct IO When trying to insert a 10MB kernel module kept in a virtio-fs with cache disabled, the following warning was reported: ------------[ cut here ]------------ WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 404 at mm/page_alloc.c:4551 ...... As for now, the maximal read size for kvec iter is only limited by fc->max_read. For virtio-fs, max_read is UINT_MAX, so fuse_direct_io() doesn't split the 10MB buffer. It saves the address and the size of the 10MB-sized buffer in out_args[0] of a fuse request and passes the fuse request to virtio_fs_wake_pending_and_unlock(). 4) virtio_fs_wake_pending_and_unlock() uses virtio_fs_enqueue_req() to

How to fix CVE-2024-53219

What to do

Three questions, each answered from this record only. Confirm the vendor advisory before you patch.

Should you patch?

No confirmed exploitation is on record for CVE-2024-53219. EPSS is 0.22%. Act only if a listed version of linux kernel is installed.

Which versions are affected?

Compare what you have installed with linux/linux kernel < 6.11.11; linux/linux kernel < 6.12.2. Compare the installed version with the linked vendor advisory before you change production.

What should an analyst verify?

No weakness class is stored. EPSS 0.22%. There is no CISA KEV listing. No Exploit-DB or Metasploit reference is linked. Use the source links for the original advisory.
