The WebGUI endpoint accepts a parameter (source address:port or certificate common name) and passes it without any validation to the configd action . The backend script concatenates the value directly into an OpenVPN management protocol command ( ) and writes it to the daemon's management unix socket as root. A newline character inside frames a second, independent management protocol command. Any management command available on the interface can be injected, including (terminate the daemon), (restart), , and / (interfere with client authorization). The endpoint is reachable by any WebGUI user holding the delegated privilege ( → ), a monitoring role whose intended capability is to view sessions and kill individual connections. No OpenVPN configuration privilege is required. A successful injection was confirmed end-to-end: a delegated user terminated a running OpenVPN server daemon with . ### Summary Missing input validation in the OpenVPN session-kill API plus unquoted management-protocol framing lets a below-admin WebGUI user (or an authenticated VPN peer via its certificate common name) execute arbitrary OpenVPN management commands, terminating or controlling the VPN daemon (CWE-77 / CWE-78 class: command injection into a control interpreter). ### Details - Source field: POST parameter of - Sink 1 (validation missing): - Sink 2 (protocol framing): - ACL exposing the endpoint to a monitoring role: - Execution identity: root (configd action ) - Note: configd quotes shell arguments, so there is no shell escape; the injection targets the OpenVPN management protocol grammar, a separate interpreter layer. - Affected versions: OPNsense 26.1.11_5 (confirmed); earlier versions with the same code path affected. Patched versions: unknown. ### PoC PoC script (stdlib Python; creates and removes all temporary objects): The script: 1. creates a temporary CA, server certificate, and an enabled OpenVPN server instance; reconfigures OpenVPN so the management socket is live; 2. creat
